Founded in 1975 by a dedicated group of enterprising Indo-Canadians who chose to make Regina, SK their home, the India Canada Association of Saskatchewan Inc. (ICA) has grown into a beacon of cultural celebration and community connection. What began as a vision to share the immensity of Indian culture for the promotion of peaceful coexistence has blossomed into one of the region's most respected multicultural organizations, drawing participants from across the wider community each year.
ICA's commitment to its mission is evident in its landmark achievements and ongoing community engagement. In 2002, the organization partnered with the City of Regina and the Government of India through the Consulate General of India to bring a statue of Mahatma Gandhi to Regina—a symbol that now stands in front of City Hall as a beacon of peace and love for the entire community. This achievement reflects ICA's ability to collaborate meaningfully with government and cultural institutions to create lasting legacies.
Today, ICA membership encompasses Indo-Canadians and anyone interested in celebrating and promoting East Indian culture, creating an inclusive space where traditions are honored and cross-cultural understanding flourishes. The organization operates with transparent governance, conducting regular board meetings and annual general meetings to ensure accountability and community voice. Through its diverse programming, substantial charitable contributions, and unwavering dedication to cultural preservation, ICA continues to foster a vibrant and inclusive community in Regina that values mutual understanding, unity, and the rich tapestry of Indian heritage.
