The duties of Polish Honorary Consuls include: protection of the rights and interests of the Republic of Poland and its citizens, fostering the development of friendly relations and cooperation between Poland and the U.S., fostering the bonds between Poland and Polish Americans, promoting the Polish economy, science, culture and language, and providing consular assistance.
The Polish-American Club of Alaska is here to bring people together with the common interest of Polish heritage. We hope to encourage and promote an awareness and understanding of historical and contemporary Poland in the Alaska public, particularly among people of Polish descent.
In the spring of 1973 several Alaskans, mostly 2nd and 3rd generation Polish Americans, established the Polish Club of Anchorage. Their goal was to maintain Polish culture and traditions in their lives and the lives of other Polish Americans. Forty one years later the Club, now the Polish-American Club of Alaska, proudly continues their legacy.
Times have changed; new members have joined the club while others have moved or left. Political events in the 1980's in the old country gave rise to a wave of immigration. This has allowed our club to be widely diverse. Some of our members have never been to Poland, while others are recent immigrants. We are fortunate enough to have members who remember the beginning and new members who bring new ideas and new life to the club.
The Club exists due to the commitment of its members to keep Polish heritage alive.
