Cal Poly Black Alumni Community — SoCal Men's Basketball Pregame Mixer

The Cal Poly Black Alumni Community is coming together on Saturday, Feb. 28, starting at 5 p.m. for our final Black History Month event with a special pregame mixer at Dirty Birds La Jolla (9500 Gilman Dr Price Center #1420, San Diego, CA 92093). Bust out your green and gold and mix and mingle with fellow alumni during this casual reception. Guests also have the chance to meet volunteer leaders from the Cal Poly Black Alumni Community. Don't forget to pick up some swag before the Cal Poly men’s basketball game against UC San Diego! After the social, head over to LionTree Arena (9860 Hopkins Dr, San Diego, CA 92093) to cheer on the Mustangs as they face the Tritons. The community is ready to show up and show out for the team! Here's how ticketing works: 5-6:30 p.m., Pre-game Alumni Mixer: Guests interested in attending the pre-game gathering can register here on Eventbrite. The event is FREE to attend. Food and beverages are available for purchase. We ask that you RSVP by Monday, Feb. 23 so we have an accurate count for swag. This all-ages event is open to all Cal Poly alumni and supporters. 7 p.m., Cal Poly vs. UC San Diego Men's Basketball Game: Tickets must be purchased directly from the host university. "We Are Each Other's Harvest" with Natalie Baszile: Black History Month Author Talk & Resource Fair Join us for We Are Each Other's Harvest: Celebrating African American Farmers, Land, and Legacy with Natalie Baszile at the San Diego Central Library! San Diego Public Library and USD Copley Library are thrilled to present Natalie Baszile for this year's Black History Month Author spotlight. This in-person event will also include a resource fair, Q&A session, book signing and—for attendees who arrive early—a FREE copy of one of Natalie's books.* 5:00 p.m. | Resource Fair 6:00 p.m. | Author Talk 7:00 p.m. | Book Signing Registration is highly recommended. *Arrive early—the first 50 attendees receive one of Natalie's books. Natalie Baszile is the author of the novel, Queen Sugar, which was adapted for seven television seasons and nominated for an NAACP Image Award. She has a M.A. in Afro-American Studies from UCLA, and an MFA from Warren Wilson College's MFA Program for Writers. Join us as we discuss Natalie Baszile's new non-fiction book, We are Each Other's Harvest: Celebrating African American Farmers, Land & Legacy, where Natalie brings together essays, poems, conversations, portraits, and first-person narratives to tell the story of Black people's connection to the land from Emancipation to the present. Natalie's passion for the stories of Black farmers and land stewards comes from a desire to shift the narrative around agriculture, farming, and labor. ==== Parking at Central Library ==== Attendees may park for up to 2 hours FREE, with a validated ticket, in Central Library's underground parking garage. A community pop up event within the Black Arts and Cultral district featuring black owned busineses and resources. This is an all age event, come enjoiy music, cultral, face painting, food, and performances Helpful Tips for Enjoying the Event Parking – We all know parking on Imperial Ave can be a challenge! We strongly encourage ride-sharing, carpooling, public transportation (the trolley runs along Imperial Ave), or arranging drop-offs. Otherwise, be prepared to park and walk. Early Arrival – Popular vendors sell out fast! Arriving early gives you the best chance to try everything on your list. Practice Patience – Large events mean long lines, especially at popular vendors. Please be patient and respectful—vendors are working hard to serve everyone. A little kindness goes a long way! Clean Up After Yourself – Help keep the event space beautiful by using trash bins and disposing of waste properly. Chairs – We’ll have designated eating areas, but feel free to bring your own chair and find a comfy spot to relax. Vibes – Bring ALL the good vibes! We’re here to have an amazing time together.
