The Conference of the Birds is a luminous Sufi allegory about the soul’s search for truth & the courage required to undertake that journey.
Written by the Persian poet Farid ud-Din Attar, the tale follows a gathering of birds who set out in pursuit of their elusive king, the Simurgh, a symbol of the Divine, ultimate truth, and self-realization. Led by the wise hoopoe, they cross seven symbolic valleys: yearning, love, knowledge, detachment, unity, wonder, and finally annihilation in the Beloved. Each marking a stage of inner transformation. Along the way, many falter, unable to release fear, ego, or illusion. Those who endure reach the end only to discover that the Simurgh they sought is reflected in themselves.
Both mystical and profoundly human, this poetic masterpiece reminds us that what we search for in the world is often already within us, waiting to be revealed through surrender, insight, and love.
For the first time in the United States, this legendary work is being brought to the stage in a powerful live production that invites contemporary audiences into Attar’s timeless vision. An evening of music, storytelling, and reflection on the nature of self, purpose, and awakening.

Celebrate Nawruz with music, dance, crafts, poetry, and family activities welcoming spring and the Persian New Year.
The Wende Museum is pleased to partner with the Aga Khan Museum and The Ismaili Council for the Western United States in organizing a fun-filled day of activities for the entire family at this celebration.
The festival of Nawruz coincides with the vernal equinox, on the 20th of March — when the sun crosses the equator and equalizes day and night. In the Persian calendar, this event marks the New Year, and Nawruz, the 21st of March, is the ‘new day’ that marks the beginning of Spring. It is a day to offer gratitude for the bounties of life and to express renewed hope and optimism for the future.
Nawruz is celebrated by over three hundred million people in the Balkans, the Caucasus, Central and South Asia, and by Iranians worldwide. It signals the transition from a dull and grey winter to a vibrant and colorful spring, a promise of new life and abundance. It is also an opportunity to reflect on the delicate intertwining of nature and humanity, one that sustains us and needs to be preserved.
Activities include live musical and dance performances, calligraphy workshop, tile painting, henna painting, planting seeds, button making, creating greeting cards, poetry recitations, children’s egg painting, and Persian tea and refreshments.
