Jonathan and Andre are best friends who have loved 'Waiting to Exhale' since they were kids. Now as black gay men, their appreciation for Terry McMillan’s classic deepens as their adult lives seem to mirror the situations of the women in the film they love so much. Just like Robin, Gloria, Bernadine, and Savannah, will they both learn to let go of everything holding them back or will they continue waiting to exhale?

OutLaw stands as a historic student organization at Loyola Marymount University's Law School in Los Angeles, California, with a proud legacy dating back to 1972 as the first LGBTQ student organization ever recognized by a law school in the United States. This groundbreaking organization brings together lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) students alongside their allies, creating an inclusive community centered on shared values of equality and social justice.
At its core, OutLaw is built on the principle of community support and mutual empowerment. The organization recognizes that law students navigating their education while advocating for LGBTQ rights need more than just information—they need genuine peer connection, mentorship, and understanding from those who share their commitment. By fostering an environment where members can connect authentically with one another, OutLaw creates lasting relationships that extend beyond law school into professional careers and lifelong advocacy work.
The organization's mission reflects a deep commitment to social justice that extends far beyond LGBTQ issues alone. OutLaw members understand that the advancement of LGBT rights is fundamentally connected to broader movements for equality and justice across all communities. Through cooperation with other LGBTQ organizations throughout Los Angeles, OutLaw amplifies its voice and strengthens the collective impact of legal professionals dedicated to systemic change. The organization provides a safe, affirming space where members can explore their identities, develop their legal skills, and build the professional networks that will sustain their advocacy work throughout their careers. For over fifty years, OutLaw has been cultivating a community of lawyers and law students who believe that the law can be a powerful tool for social transformation.
Nestled within the University of Southern California's Office of Religious and Spiritual Life in Los Angeles, the Adventist Student Community represents a unique student organization dedicated to fostering spiritual wholeness and meaningful fellowship. This Los Angeles-based group emerged from a desire to create a space where students could explore their faith authentically while maintaining connections to the broader Seventh-Day Adventist tradition and Christian values.
At its core, the Adventist Student Community prioritizes inclusion and open dialogue. The organization welcomes students from all backgrounds and belief systems, recognizing that meaningful spiritual exploration thrives in diverse, affirming environments. By explicitly positioning itself as LGBTQ inclusive, the community demonstrates a commitment to representing all members of the USC student body with dignity and respect. This welcoming stance extends to biblical interpretation as well, encouraging multiple perspectives and thoughtful discussion rather than rigid doctrine.
The organization's mission centers on creating a genuine fellowship that addresses the real needs of college students. Beyond traditional religious programming, the Adventist Student Community recognizes the interconnection between spiritual health, mental wellness, and physical vitality. Members gather to celebrate the Sabbath together, offering respite from academic pressures and creating moments of genuine community connection and mutual support.
Led by Religious Directors Donovan Childs and Carl Voight, alongside student leadership including Student Contact Alex Habumugisha, the Adventist Student Community embodies USC's broader commitment to religious pluralism and interfaith collaboration. The organization actively participates in the university's spiritual life ecosystem, contributing to USC's vision of fostering a vibrant community where students pursue meaning through reflection, free inquiry, and engaged dialogue. For students in Los Angeles seeking authentic spiritual community rooted in Adventist tradition yet open to all seekers, this student organization provides genuine belonging and purposeful fellowship.
