For Filipinos, the modern day poetry slam is an echo of the balagtasan-- a poetic, political debate. The Katipunan were the revolutionary group in the Philippines who fought for independence against Spanish colonization in the 1890s. In honor of this history, KPS provides a platform for Filipino poets to channel the fighting spirit of our ancestors in this celebration of free speech, and celebration of us.
The lineup includes emerging artists, published authors, and seasoned slam champions who are recognized both locally and nationally. There's no limit to what we do with our words, now let us get the community to hear our stories!
1st place is awarded $500 and the Joe Limer Memorial Trophy. 2nd place is awarded $250. 3rd place is awarded $100.
We are accepting donations to continue to support Filipino art and culture. Your support will help provide meals, decorations, equipment, supplies, security, insurance, and programming needs. You don't want to miss this hilarious and thought-provoking celebration of black queer friendship .
Synopsis
Jonathan and Andre are best friends who have loved 'Waiting to Exhale' since they were kids. Now as black gay men, their appreciation for Terry McMillan’s classic deepens as their adult lives seem to mirror the situations of the women in the film they love so much. Just like Robin, Gloria, Bernadine, and Savannah, will they both learn to let go of everything holding them back or will they continue waiting to exhale?

Gospel Choir WORKSHOP Series & Concert! All ages, backgrounds, faiths are invited to share in a musical experience of Joy and Community.
Ever wanted to sing in a gospel choir?
Do you start singing every time you hear "O Happy Day"?
Did the movie "Sister Act" or "The Preacher's Wife" make you fall in love with gospel music all over again?
This summer, renowned gospel musician and Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir Founding Artistic Director Terrance Kelly is bringing the magic back to Santa Clarita, and you're invited to be part of the music.
After a fantastic event last October that brought together old friends, new friends, and people who had never tried gospel singing before, we're back for a three-part workshop and concert series. St. Stephen's Episcopal has once again opened their doors, with Music Minister Josh Wenz co-hosting this joyful community experience.
No auditions and no experience necessary. Songs are taught by ear in the Black gospel tradition. You just need to show up ready to sing!
EVERYONE WELCOME! People of all ages, backgrounds, and faiths are invited to share in a musical experience of joy and community.
Workshop #1 - July 11
Workshop # 2 - Aug 8
Workshop # 3 & Concert - Aug 22
