The San Diego Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. is an organization of mothers who nurture future African-American leaders by strengthening children through chapter programming, community service, legislative advocacy, and philanthropic giving. The visionary Marion Stubbs Thomas founded Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated, on January 24, 1938, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. That was the day Mrs. Stubbs Thomas brought together twenty mothers in the Philadelphia area who understood the need to create an organization that would provide youth between the ages of 2 and 19 with unique social, cultural and educational programming. Eight years later, in 1946, Jack and Jill of America, Inc. had grown to ten chapters. Together, they developed the organization’s bylaws and constitution, and the organization was incorporated under the laws of the state of Delaware.
Today, Jack and Jill boast more than 240 chapters nationwide, representing more than 40,000 family members from Alaska to Florida. Each chapter plans annual programming activities guided under a national theme. Through service projects, each Jack and Jill of America chapter creates an opportunity for children to stimulate their growth, development and leadership abilities.
