Featuring the Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus of North America (UBC), under the direction of artistic director Oleh Mahlay, and the one-of-a-kind 60-stringed bandura.
The UBC, a 2025 recipient of the NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS National Heritage Fellowship Award recipient, comes to Arizona with its Все буде Україна -- Ukraine Lives! concert program. The ensemble, established in Kyiv, Ukraine in 1918, established itself in North America in 1949 after a turbulent and perilous history. Over the past century, the ensemble has performed in Carnegie Hall, Massey Hall, Lincoln Center, the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, touching and inspiring hundreds of thousands of listeners with its performances, educational programs, and extensive discography.
The ensemble continues to amplify Ukraine’s voice and to highlight the culture's history and identity.
This performance is more than just music: It is a celebration of Ukraine's cultural heritage and resilience.
The concert will start at 5:30 pm. Doors will open at 5:00 pm.
The ensemble's "22 and under" free admission policy is part of the UBC Bandura Education and Outreach program.
Experience the magic, warmth, and spirit of a Ukrainian Christmas through the unforgettably beautiful sound of Bandura — Ukraine’s national instrument and a symbol of centuries-old resilience, hope, and cultural pride.
More than just an instrument, Bandura tells the story of a nation. This unique 65-string instrument carries echoes of Ukraine’s rich past — from the wandering Kobzars, blind minstrels, to today’s bandura artists who continue to unite audiences around the world.
In our Christmas with Bandura benefit concert you will be transported to a Ukrainian music wonderland filled with traditional Christmas carols (kolyadky and shchedrivky), festive arrangements, and soul-stirring melodies. This is more than a concert — it’s a celebration of heritage, community, and the enduring power of Ukrainian bandura music.
Together, we will perform traditional and contemporary Ukrainian carols, blending intricate harmonies and instrumentals, and use heartfelt storytelling in a performance that will leave audiences inspired.
This benefit concert is part of the U.S. holiday tour organized by BandurArts, U.S.-based nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting Ukrainian bandura music and culture through education, performance, and artistic collaboration.
We are proud to partner with the House of Ukraine, a Ukrainian cultural center in San Diego, CA to bring the community together during this magical Christmas and holiday season!
This concert series is both a celebration and a cause — proceeds and donations from the Christmas with Bandura concert will directly support Ukrainian initiatives, educational programs, humanitarian initiatives, and artistic mentorship efforts in the U.S. and Ukraine.
We cannot wait to carol with you! Reserve your seats early — these concerts will be a highlight of the holiday season!
