Four Corners Rainbow Youth Center emerged from the authentic voices of 2SLGBTQIA+ youth in Durango, Colorado who sought a brave, inclusive space where they could be fully accepted and supported in their growth. Since opening its doors in September 2015, RYC has built a vibrant community centered on vulnerability, compassion, and justice—values that guide every interaction and program. The organization's mission is to create an anti-racist, anti-oppressive, non-judgmental environment where Two Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, and Asexual youth, families, and allies can thrive together. RYC operates on core principles of respect for names, pronouns, orientation, and gender identity; confidentiality within the youth space; clear boundary-setting; and brave space for growth and learning. The center serves youth who have historically felt unsupported at school or at home, providing peer connection, guidance from trained volunteers and staff, and individualized mentorship. With approximately 65 percent of attendees identifying as transgender or non-binary, RYC has become uniquely positioned to serve this population and support other agencies throughout Southwest Colorado. The organization values the whole person as they are and creates opportunities for youth to live their best lives possible. Governed by a Board of Directors comprised of seasoned non-profit veterans and led by passionate staff, Four Corners Rainbow Youth Center represents a community commitment to demystifying stereotypes through education and empowerment, making it a vital resource for LGBTQIA+ youth and families throughout the Durango area.
