The Consular Section of the Austrian Embassy Washington sees its main tasks in providing service to all Austrian citizens within its jurisdiction and those interested in traveling to Austria. Our jurisdiction includes 18 federal states: (Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia), as well as the US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. Our team receives significant support from twelve Honorary Consulates in Atlanta, Houston, Miami, Nassau, New Orleans, Orlando, Richmond, San Juan, Spartanburg, St. Louis, St. Thomas and Tampa.

The chancery building of the Austrian Embassy was built on a 1.14-acre plot in Northwest Washington and officially opened its doors to the public on October 26, 1991. The most striking feature of the building is a 5,000-square-foot sky-lit atrium in the center of the edifice, which serves as an auditorium for cultural events and offers enough space to accommodate approximately 400 people. The multi-purpose room next to the auditorium can accommodate another 150 people, and is used for smaller events and film screenings. In addition to the plethora of cultural events organized by the Austrian Cultural Forum, the Embassy welcomes groups of students from all over the United States several times a year to introduce them to Austrian culture, history, and politics.

The Austrian Cultural Forum Washington (ACFDC) serves as a focal point to promote Austrian culture and art in the Washington DC metro area. By organizing a variety of cultural events (concerts, film screenings, exhibitions, theatre performances, lectures and panel discussions) throughout the year, we aim at encouraging cultural exchange between Austrian and American artists and its audiences. The ACF Washington is at the same time the Cultural Section of the Austrian Embassy in Washington, DC and offers free admission to all of its events open to the public. It organizes, supports, initiates and facilitates about 40 events per year, many of which take place in the atrium hall of the Embassy of Austria.
