An independent organisation named SVEA was formed in 1981. On February 3, 2000 SWEA Washington DC was founded in order to became a chapter of SWEA International. The members of the former SVEA became members of SWEA Washington DC.
Today, we have around 120 members in the Washington DC chapter. Every year, we organize a number of programs throughout the year. As well, we organize traditional Swedish events during the year for members and their families.
We work actively to spread Swedish culture in the Washington area and celebrate Swedish holidays. Some of our annual events are our Swedish Holiday Market in December, pea soup with guests in April and crayfish slice in September!
During the year, we arrange lunch and evening meetings with invited guest speakers. Excursions, study visits, author evenings, concerts and exhibitions etc.
We make new contacts, support, inspire and help each other. New girlfriends become friends for life!
