An Enchanting Evening of Portuguese Culture, Music, and Dinner Residence of the Portuguese Ambassador to the United States Enjoy a delightful Portuguese Fado concert followed by dinner. The intimate and beautiful setting of the Portuguese Ambassador’s residence provides the perfect setting for you to discover Portugal through all your senses while meeting the Ambassador*, distinguished diplomats and staff at the embassy along with ICDC members in attendance. The dinner buffet of Portuguese delicacies will be presented with limited seating after the concert. The dinner reception also includes wine and drinks served at the bar. Her connection to Portuguese music and culture, however, began much earlier. The daughter of parents born on the island of Terceira in the Azores, Alison grew up immersed in Portuguese traditions, including Fado, Cantoria, and Carnaval. Her love of Fado began at the age of seven, when her grandmother taught her her first Fado, “O Xaile de Minha Mãe.” Since then, Fado has remained an important part of Alison’s life and artistic journey. Through regular visits to Terceira and her continued connection to her family’s heritage, she has developed a deep appreciation for the music, traditions, and culture of Portugal. Alison has had the opportunity to share Fado with audiences in California, Terceira, Lisbon, and Canada. She is honored to perform at the Residence of the Ambassador of Portugal on December 3 and looks forward to sharing her love of Fado and Portuguese culture with the evening’s guests. The WSB is celebrating 175 years of German singing in the DMV at our fall concert! Join us for an evening of music and fellowship. In 1851, members of Concordia Church (now The United Church/ Die Vereinigte Kirche) in Washington DC formed what would become the oldest continuously operating singing society in the DMV. Fittingly, we are celebrating our anniversary with a concert that takes us back to our roots and through 175 years of Saengerbund history. Our friends from the Delaware Saengerbund and the German Vocalists from the German International School in Potomac will come to DC to celebrate with us, and we hope so will you! A reception will follow the concert.

Your generosity will help Ukrainian veterans regain strength, rebuild confidence, and find connection through sport. Participation in the 2026 Army Ten-Miler (ATM) and Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) also brings Ukrainian and American veterans and military personnel together, building bonds of friendship, solidarity, and mutual support. Son Cubano Subterráneo draws their inspiration from Cuba’s rich musical heritage, adding their own style and signature sound. Son Cubano Subterráneo draws their inspiration from Cuba’s rich musical heritage, adding their own style and signature sound. This six-piece ensemble has been entertaining dancers and listeners throughout the Washington DC metro area since 2024, performing Cuban “Son,” the musical style at the core of Latin salsa dance music. Son Cubano's sound includes authentic Cuban instruments anda deep repertoire of styles, tempos and songs from all the greats including Buena Vista Social Club, Arsenio Rodriguez, Celia Cruz,Tito Puente, Oscar D’Leon, and many others, with some surprises thrown in. Bandleader and Cuban tres player Josh Schneck formed the band in 2024. He’s joined by singer Steven Falcon, Fran Vielma on congas, Eduardo Padua on bongos and hand percussion, Matvei OK so therefore Come on Sigalov on guitar and violin, and the amazing Gabriel Vivas on upright bass. as the Brooklyn Academy of Music, SOB's, and Le Poisson Rouge. The band has also released several critically acclaimed albums, including Somos Latinos (2013) and Los Habaneros NYC (2018), which can be streamed directly on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.

Musica Spira in Capitol Hill: Chiara Cozzolani's Mass for Four Voices
Join Musica Spira for a concert featuring Chiara Cozzolani's exquisite Mass for Four Voices and other gems from the Italian Baroque convents More than half of all Italian women spent their lives in convents in the seventeenth century. Cloistered from the world, these women were often free to pursue artistic and scholarly endeavors at extraordinarily high levels. At least thirteen nuns composed stunningly virtuosic music across the seventeenth century in Italy, and countless more musical women performed these masterpieces behind screens for adoring audiences. At times, the women's music-making was so extraordinary that it attracted the suspicion of church authorities who would then enact various levels of censorship. Despite these restrictions, the musical women in convents found ways to continue perfecting their craft. The centerpiece of this concert is Chiara Margarita Cozzolani's Mass for Four singers, a stunning work she wrote while living in a Benedictine convent in Milan. The program also features pieces by other seventeenth-century Italian nuns, showcasing the wide range of high-level music making that women achieved in the Baroque period. Grace Srinivasan, soprano Kristen Dubenion-Smith, mezzo-soprano Aaron Cates, tenor Corbin Phillips, baritone Amy Domingues, viola da gamba Paula Maust, harpischord Musica Spira (Music Breathes) brings the underrepresented stories of early modern women musicians to life through thought-provoking programs that shed light on women’s contributions to music history. Co-Directors Grace Srinivasan and Paula Maust combine scholarly research with innovative musical programming to create concert themes that “draw musical traditions of the past and present into renewed conversations about the importance of life and values” (The Wilson Center). Since their founding in 2016, they have performed on major concert series in Boston, New York, Baltimore, Indianapolis, Bloomington, and Washington, D.C.
