This welcoming is for all‑ages, designed to bring families, youth, elders, and neighbors together to learn, share, and celebrate the brilliance of African and African American history. Do you think it is time to reclaim the power of learning for our communities or will we continue allow learning to diminish and our future generations not be empowered? This is our time to come together as a community and learn with each other. Let's explore and some may discover these stories for the first time or some may deepen what they already know. This club creates a space where knowledge becomes a bridge between generations and a spark for community pride. Stories of great African Americans — both well‑known and unsung 1 hour of your time and energy and it's every other week! The mission of the Black Achievement Fund is to finance the development of Black America by recycling Black wealth back into Black communities through a simple system of collective economics as follows: 10 million Black people and our allies + $9 a month = $90 million a month to finance the grand development of Black America and beyond. This panel conversation highlights the power and passion of Black women leaders who have shaped, and continue to shape, an inclusive movement for social justice. Drawing on the Be Present Archives and the Lillie P. Allen Papers now housed at Emory University’s Rose Library, the discussion offers an opportunity to reflect on this legacy and consider its relevance today. Guests are also welcome to arrive early to view the archive display and walkthrough and join us for light refreshments prior to the panel. The panel and archive walkthrough take place as part of a broader week of events at Emory University that also includes meetings of the Be Present, Inc. National Board of Directors, bringing together leaders and community members to explore shared governance and the future of the movement. Join author Jaylene Clark Owens as she pens an ode to Black girls and braids, a dynamic duo. This empowering picture book shines a light on what braids mean to Black girls of all ages and shows how Black communities have managed to continuously make space for braids, paying homage to their origins while making fun and futuristic styles, despite rules and regulations attempting to condemn them. Braids of all lengths, colors, and styles are brought to life with detailed illustrations from Brittney Bond, crafting a timeless book which honors creativity, encourages confidence, and calls for Black girls to proudly show off their braids no matter what! Attendees will receive gift bags with hair care samples sponsored by 4U by Tia, Dosso Beauty, and Taliah Waajid, while supplies last.
