Founded on a legacy dating back to 1938 when thirty-seven ambitious women from nine states gathered to establish the Women's Council of Realtors, this organization has grown into a powerful force for women leadership in real estate serving Sandy Springs, Georgia and beyond. The council's history reflects decades of progress in advancing women's roles within the National Association of Realtors, culminating in 1992 when Dorcas T. Helfant-Browning became the first woman to serve as NAR president. Today, Women's Council of Realtors Georgia continues this tradition of breaking barriers and creating opportunities for the next generation of female real estate professionals.
At its core, the organization is a network of successful realtors committed to advancing women as business leaders both in the industry and in the communities they serve. Members come from diverse backgrounds and experiences, creating a rich environment where mentorship naturally flourishes at local, state, and national levels. The more members engage with the council, the more likely they are to find inspiration and guidance from fellow members who are eager to support their growth and professional development.
Under the 2025 leadership theme of "Game Changers," Women's Council of Realtors Georgia emphasizes that leaders are made within their networks. The organization operates with a mission grounded in unity, togetherness, and strength, providing spaces where women can share successes, lift each other during challenges, and make a lasting impact on their communities. This collaborative approach distinguishes the council as more than a professional association—it is a movement dedicated to empowering women in real estate and beyond.

EmpowerMOM is an uplifting community event for mothers. We aim to prepare and equip mothers for childbirth and beyond.
EmpowerMOM was created by Dr. Phindile Erika Chowa, an Emergency Medicine physician and founder of EMCare2U, after witnessing firsthand how unprepared and unsupported many women feel during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
Dr. Chowa envisioned a gathering where women could learn, connect, and feel uplifted — a space where education, community, and culturally competent support come together. EmpowerMOM was designed to bring birth workers, resources, and families into one room so moms are no longer navigating these seasons alone.
Through EmpowerMOM, Dr. Chowa’s mission is clear: to bridge the gaps in postpartum care, improve maternal health outcomes, and build a stronger village for mothers, especially Black mothers, during the most vulnerable and transformative seasons of their lives.
April's EmpowerMOM is presented by Black Girls Mental Health Foundation , a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing mental health support, resources, and training to Black women. This event is proudly being held during Black Maternal Health Week, a time dedicated to honoring, supporting, and advocating for Black mothers and birthing people.
So get ready to be showered with love, support, and expert guidance at every step of your journey. Whether you're trying to conceive, expecting your first baby or your fourth, or navigating the postpartum period, EmpowerMOM is a warm, high-impact event created to celebrate you, support you, and equip you with the tools you need for a confident pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experience.
