Since its founding in 1970, the India American Cultural Association has been a vital pillar of the Smyrna, Georgia Indian American community, growing from a small group of pioneering families into a thriving volunteer-led organization. What began as a handful of residents with a vision to preserve their cultural identity has blossomed into a comprehensive community institution serving thousands. IACA's journey reflects the evolution of the Indian American experience in Atlanta—from the early days when the community numbered just a few families, through the rapid growth of the 1980s, to today's diverse and multi-generational population. The organization was reactivated in 1975 with a clear mission: to create a cultural center where Indian Americans could celebrate their heritage regardless of religion or regional origin. Key milestones include the inauguration of the India Cultural and Religious Center in 1984, the establishment of the Life Membership program, and the launch of flagship events like the Drama Festival and annual beauty pageant. IACA's founding members, many of whom remain active today, instilled values of community service and cultural preservation that continue to guide the organization. Today, IACA welcomes everyone—from longtime residents to recent arrivals, from traditional community members to tech professionals and second-generation Indian Americans. Operating under the principle "Hum Hai, Sab Ke Liye Hum Hai" (We are IACA and IACA is for everyone), the organization remains committed to fostering belonging, celebrating cultural identity, and strengthening the bonds that unite the Indian American community in the Smyrna and greater Atlanta region.

Through their own love letters, poems, songs, and expressive works, participants illuminate the courage, brilliance, humor, resilience, and transformative impact of Black lives and legacies. Hosted by Tim’m T. West, Executive Director of the LGBTQ Institute, this inspired gathering invites community members to join us on Valentine’s Day during Black History Month for an afternoon of storytelling, artistic homage, and collective reflection on the ancestors, visionaries, and cultural pioneers who continue to guide us. Together, we celebrate love as history, history as love, and the power of creative expression to connect past and present.
