The Consulate General of Brazil in Chicago has jurisdiction over the states of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska and Wisconsin.
The Consulate General of Brazil in Chicago, reporting directly to the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, is responsible for - in the area of its jurisdiction - providing assistance to Brazilians, performing notary and other functions provided for in the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations. Subsidiarily, it will seek to support the Brazilian community in activities in the educational, cultural and commercial promotion areas.
What the Consulate General can do:
- Protect the interests of Brazilian citizens, respecting current international treaties and United States legislation;
- Exercise the functions of notary public and civil registry officer, and, as such, authenticate documents, issue certificates, powers of attorney, declarations, certificates and attestations to Brazilian citizens;
- Issuing travel documents (passports, authorizations to return to Brazil - ARB);
- Act as a military enlistment agency abroad;
- Conduct electoral processes in its jurisdiction;
- Grant a Brazilian visa for foreign citizens to enter the national territory;
- Provide assistance to Brazilian citizens in a situation of helplessness;
- Carry out projects with the Brazilian community.
