Founded in 1991 by ten dedicated Louisvillians, the Fairness Campaign represents Kentucky's broad-based community effort to build an inclusive society where LGBTQ individuals and allies work together for equal rights and social justice. Serving communities throughout Louisville, KY and across the Commonwealth, the organization is built on the belief that gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer people deserve respect, dignity, and full equality in all aspects of life.
The Fairness Campaign's vision extends beyond legislative victories to fundamentally dismantle oppression and create an inclusive community where all individuals are valued and empowered to reach their full potential. The organization recognizes that dismantling racism is central to this work and that lasting change requires coalition building with other social justice movements. With 24 Kentucky communities now protected by Fairness Ordinances—from Louisville and Lexington to smaller communities like Vicco, Midway, and Elsmere—the organization demonstrates the power of persistent grassroots organizing. The Fairness Education Fund, designated as a 501(c)(3) publicly supported organization, works specifically to broaden community awareness and counter societal myths through accurate information and education.
