Since 1973, PFLAG has grown from one mother's simple act of public support for her gay son into the nation's largest family and ally organization, with over 400 chapters and 200,000 members nationwide. PFLAG Somerset, established in 2019, brings this powerful legacy of acceptance and advocacy to the Somerset, Kentucky area. The organization is built on the belief that chosen family matters just as much as biological family, and that everyone deserves a community where they can be authentically themselves. Led by a dedicated volunteer board including President Michelle Fisher, an intersectionality-focused legal advocate, and other committed community members, PFLAG Somerset creates spaces where people across generations can gather, support one another, and celebrate LGBTQ+ identities. The chapter hosts HoliGay celebrations, potluck gatherings, and monthly support meetings that foster genuine connection and belonging within the Somerset community. What sets PFLAG Somerset apart is its grassroots approach to building community—volunteer-driven, accessible to all, and deeply rooted in the values of respect, affirmation, and diversity. Whether you're a parent, family member, friend, ally, or LGBTQ+ individual seeking community, PFLAG Somerset welcomes you. The organization's mission extends beyond meetings; it's about creating a world where diversity is celebrated and all people are valued. As a member of the Somerset-Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce, PFLAG Somerset actively contributes to making the region a more inclusive and compassionate place for everyone.
