Founded in 2008 by a dedicated group of African American men including Melvin Caesar, Patrick Williams, Alton Trahan, Willie Smith, and George Williams, 100 Black Men of Greater Lafayette emerged from a shared vision to create positive change in the Lafayette, LA area. What began as informal meetings among concerned community members evolved into a formally chartered chapter of 100 Black Men of America, Inc. in 2009, with Melvin Caesar serving as founding president. The organization draws its membership from the entire Greater Lafayette Region, bringing together men from diverse professional backgrounds who are passionate about community improvement. 100 Black Men of Greater Lafayette operates on the principle that mentoring and sustained engagement with young people unlock potential and transform futures. The organization values respect for family, spirituality, justice, and integrity as foundational to all its work. Rather than working in isolation, the chapter deliberately cultivates relationships with law enforcement, political leadership, business leaders, and civic organizations that share its commitment to enhancing educational and economic opportunities. This collaborative approach has enabled the organization to extend its impact across multiple communities while maintaining its focus on youth development and African American economic empowerment.
