For over three decades, the Women's Alliance for Theology, Ethics, and Ritual has served as a vital hub for justice-oriented religious leaders and scholars in Silver Spring, Maryland. WATER emerged from a vision to transform how women engage with theology and religious practice, building an intentional community of activists, ministers, and academics committed to using faith as a tool for social change. The organization's mission centers on empowerment, justice, peace, and systemic transformation—values reflected in every program and partnership. What distinguishes WATER is its integrated approach combining rigorous theological scholarship with grassroots activism, creating spaces where intellectual work directly serves communities working toward liberation and equity. Operating on principles of non-discrimination and collaborative partnership, WATER has cultivated genuine relationships with justice networks across the globe, amplifying voices often marginalized in traditional religious institutions. The organization's commitment to simple living and financial transparency demonstrates a deep integrity in how it stewards resources and builds trust with supporters and partners. As an international community rooted in the Silver Spring area, WATER invites individuals and organizations to join in reimagining religious structures that reflect feminist values and promote inclusive, egalitarian futures for all people.
