Founded in 2014 with support from The Community Foundation of Southeastern Massachusetts, the South Coast LGBTQ+ Network represents a unified commitment to creating a thriving, inclusive community in New Bedford and across the South Coast region. Born from the collaborative vision of seven LGBTQ+ agencies and allied organizations, the Network has grown into a vital resource dedicated to helping individuals freely, safely, and joyously celebrate their true selves. The organization's mission centers on building and maintaining a comprehensive support network that recognizes the unique needs of LGBTQ+ individuals and families at every life stage, with special attention to youth, transgender and nonbinary individuals, and older adults who face heightened vulnerability. Beyond service provision, the Network actively works to eliminate homophobia through education, advocacy, and outreach efforts that engage governmental partners, community organizations, and private entities. The organization fosters meaningful intergenerational connections where LGBTQ+ individuals learn from one another through shared social, educational, and community projects. Operating community resource centers throughout the region, the Network provides safe gathering spaces where members and allies can connect, support one another, and engage in activities celebrating their community. In response to ongoing challenges facing LGBTQ+ individuals, the Network remains steadfast in its mission, working collaboratively to ensure that South Coast residents have access to the resources, dignity, and opportunities needed to live fulfilling lives free from prejudice and stigma.
