The Honorary Consulate of Sweden in Minneapolis represents the Swedish government in Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Nebraska, in concert with the Embassy of Sweden in Washington, D.C.
The Consulate’s office is located at the American Swedish Institute at 2600 Park Avenue in Minneapolis. Services provided in Minneapolis include passport delivery, provisional passports for emergency travel, applications for coordination numbers or to retain Swedish citizenship, life certificates, facilitation for Swedish voters and more.
SWEA Minnesota was founded in 1996 and has approximately 50 members. Minnesota's Sweor represents all ages and professions. SWEA Minnesota wants to serve as a gathering point for Swedish-speaking women by offering a fun and varied program that suits both young and old.
A membership in SWEA provides a strong connection with other women with the same experiences in a unique international women's network! SWEA's motto is Local support, Global friendship and Global competence.
Founded in March of 1983, the society assists people in discovering their Swedish roots and learning about Swedish history, heritage and culture.
Our Society has Swedish and American genealogy reference materials and researchers available to assist families trying to find their Swedish ancestors' families. We have quarterly meetings with programs by knowledgeable lecturers.
Our bylaws state that the purpose of our organization shall be to:
- Encourage interest in and expand knowledge of Swedish ancestry and heritage.
- Exchange ideas relating to genealogical research and methodology.
- Provide instruction on topics of interest to members.
- Expand awareness of Swedish society and culture.
- Encourage the research and writing of family, emigration/immigration and settlement histories, and publication of Swedish genealogical material.
