Founded in 1995 by dedicated Francophones and Francophiles in Jackson, MS, Alliance Française de Jackson has established itself as Mississippi's sole Alliance Française chapter and an important cultural institution for the state. The organization was established through the vision of Katie Hester, the Honorary Consul to Mississippi, and Gail Buzhardt, its founding president, who recognized the need for a dedicated space to promote French language and culture in the Jackson community. As a member of the Federation of Alliances Françaises in the United States (AFUSA), Alliance Française de Jackson connects with a larger movement that traces its roots back to 1902. The organization's mission—shared with over 800 Alliance Française chapters worldwide—centers on fostering appreciation for French language and culture. Through its programming, Alliance Française de Jackson builds community among Jackson residents who share a passion for French heritage, offering not just language instruction but meaningful cultural experiences and relationships that strengthen the bonds between members and deepen their engagement with Francophone traditions.
