Ukrainian Youth Union
In the early 1920s, when the armed struggle against the forces of Bolshevism ended in defeat, the Ukrainian intelligentsia, realizing the need for further struggle, began to prepare for new attempts to restore Ukraine's independence. This is how the Union for the Liberation of Ukraine (SVU) was formed. The IED members were people of all ages who came from all over Ukraine. Much attention was paid to the organization of students and young boys and girls who were ready to join the struggle for freedom of Ukraine. CYM, the Union of Ukrainian Youth, was born from the youth wing of the IED. Created by Nikolai Pavlushkov, Borys Matushevsky and others as a secret organization, CYM was divided into small groups of 5 people. This structure of the organization in case of arrest of one member left out of reach of the enemy other underground cells. The main goal of CYM was to liberate the Ukrainian nation from invaders and oppressors and to create an independent democratic state.
CYM units have spread to many continents of the world: Europe, South and North America, Australia, and later returned to their place of establishment in Ukraine. Today, CYM has a membership of many thousands, operating not only in Ukraine but also in the Ukrainian diaspora in Australia, Argentina, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany and the United States. 75 years since its founding and 50 years since the restoration of CYM in the diaspora, the organization works to ensure that young Ukrainians from different countries can communicate with each other, help each other in the spiritual, mental, social, cultural, educational and physical spheres, and grow in the spirit of the patriotic slogan of Pavlushkov and his associates - "God and Ukraine".
