In 1922, a group of Portuguese residents in the city of Elizabeth launched the idea of founding a Club that would not only facilitate the meeting and strengthen the friendship of the Portuguese residents at the time in the city, but also honor and dignify the Portuguese colony in the United States. The Portuguese Social Club was born.
PISC objectives
- The Portuguese Instructive Social Club has as its fundamental objective the social, cultural and sporting development of its members:
- Maintain the necessary conditions for a good environment at its headquarters;
- Promote parties inside and outside the club, get-togethers and anything else you deem necessary for the benefit of the club and its members;
- Support the initiative of a member or members without prejudice to the club;
- Maintain the Escola Portuguesa Amadeu Correia and its scholarship fund, which is administered by its own regulations;
- Support and maintain the Rancho Danças e Cantares de Portugal:
- Keep the Rainha Santa Isabel Library in operation;
- Keep the Newsletter in operation;
- To provide the conditions for the creation and maintenance of a Choir, Theater Group and others that allow members and their children to connect with Portuguese traditions, uses and customs;
- Organizing cultural meetings such as Conferences, Colloquiums and Exhibitions;
- Support member initiatives;
- Collaborate with any information body dedicated to the expansion and aggrandizement of the club and the community in general;
- Support and encourage the practice of sport.
