Honorary Consuls of France are either French citizens or citizens of the host country who are nominated by the French “Ministère des Affaires Etrangères” and delegated by the Consul General of the circumscriptions to which they belong. They are not diplomats by training and are not paid. They are, however, officially accredited by the host country and enjoy privileges and immunities as defined by the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations dated 24 April 1963.
The Honorary Consuls perform certain administrative functions; protect their constituent inhabitants and travelers; facilitate visits by political representatives and business leaders, and promote trade, investment and the arts.
The Consulate General of France in New York is the representation of France in the States of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and in Bermuda.

The French Mission represents France at the United Nations headquarters in New York. Its role is to monitor the activities of the UN to report them to the French authorities, and relay and defend France’s positions. Established in 1979 in New York City, the American Association of French Speaking Health Professionals (AAFSHP) continues to provide a formal liaison for French-speaking health professionals.

3. promotes and sponsors scientific seminars

Alliance Française is a worldwide federation that encourages an appreciation for all aspects of the French language and Francophone cultures.
Founded in 1962, AFW is the Westchester County, NY chapter of the Alliance Française. AFW offers a wide range of courses in the French language at all levels to all ages. AFW offers a variety of social and cultural events, including lectures, discussion groups, cooking classes, book clubs, French food and wine tastings and celebrations of Francophone holidays.
