Malaysia became a member of the United Nations on 17 September 1957, when it was then known as the Federation of Malaya. The twelfth session of the United Nations General Assembly unanimously agreed to admit Malaya as its 82nd member through resolution 1134(XII).
Malaysia is a supporter of United Nations peacekeeping operations as an instrument to maintain international peace and security.
The Consulate General of Malaysia in New York was officially established in the year 1983. In December 1992, the Consulate moved to its present premise. It occupies the same building (313 East 43rd Street, New York) with the Permanent Mission of Malaysia to the United Nations.
In reference to our designated Consular States, we promise to deliver quality, efficient, accurate and within reasonable time frame for the following services:
- to provide and disseminate accurate information on Malaysia that will contribute to the enhancement of the bilateral relations with the USA;
- to act as a responsive focal point in terms of bilateral activities and to provide inputs relating to policy matters to improve bilateral interests;
- to facilitate public services in information, consular, trade, investment, tourism, immigration and other related services within its mandate.
