Music & Healing Experience is a seasonal experience by Echos of China Ensemble exploring the therapeutic potential of Chinese instruments
Music & Healing Experience is a seasonal experience by Echos of China Ensemble exploring the therapeutic potential of Chinese instruments through attentive listening, traditional Chinese musical thought, and the sensory qualities of sound, space, and scent.
Rooted in the traditional correspondence between the Five Tones (五音), the Five Elements (五行), and the changing seasons, each edition develops a distinct sonic and sensory world in response to the qualities of its season. Rather than reproducing a fixed format, 音愈会 takes shape through different instruments, spaces, artists, and modes of listening.
For the Autumn edition, the resonant voice of the erhu meets the delicate, lingering tones of the guzheng, with Shang (商)—the tone associated with autumn and the element of Metal—serving as a tonal and conceptual point of departure. The music explores the qualities of clarity, restraint, resonance, and release, moving between sustained tones, delicate gestures, and the traces of sound that remain in the room.
Alongside the music, traditional Chinese incense becomes part of the composition itself. Two fragrances, E Li Zhang Zhong Xiang (鹅梨帐中香) and Xue Zhong Chun Xin (雪中春信), will unfold at different moments of the experience, allowing scent to enter the listening space not as an accompaniment to the music, but as another form of presence—subtle, continuous, and felt through the body.
Guests are also welcome to enjoy tea upon arrival, allowing the gathering to begin informally before the listening experience unfolds.
Returning to an intimate indoor setting, the Autumn edition invites us to slow down and attend to the relationship between sound and silence, presence and disappearance, resonance and residue—listening not only to what is played, but to what remains after the sound has begun to fade.

About Musica Reginae Productions:
Founded in 2000, Musica Reginae Productions (MRP) brings innovative programming and world-renowned artists to concert spaces in Queens, the most ethnically diverse county in the world. MRP’s mission is to be “Your natural choice for fine music in Queens.”
MRP produces affordable, informative, and family friendly concerts featuring music that draws its inspiration from the classical, chamber, opera, jazz and world music literature. Our concerts provide a venue for talented and exciting young and established artists and we have become increasingly devoted to presenting new music by emerging composers, particularly those who have an affiliation with NYC and with our home borough of Queens. MRP fulfills its educational outreach mission with its Community Concerts for Kids, a free interactive, educational series for children and families ages 4 and up, led by teaching artists Beata Moon and MRP Artistic Director Barbara Podgurski. In addition, our artists perform at several public events every year including the 9/11 ceremonies in lower Manhattan and have also performed for Pope Francis during his Papal Visit of 2015. MRP is able to present top-notch performances each season because of the support it receives from individual and corporate sponsors in addition to partial funding from the Department of Cultural Affairs, the New York State Council on the Arts and NYC & Co.
