Serving the Queens, NY community and beyond, the Hellenic American Project represents a unique institutional commitment to honoring and preserving Greek American identity and contributions to American society. HAP emerged from a recognition that the Greek American experience—spanning over a century of immigration, adaptation, and cultural evolution—deserved dedicated documentation and celebration. As the only program of its kind in New York, HAP maintains deep connections with the Greek American community through its role as a research facility, archive, library, museum, and gathering space. The organization works directly with community members, collecting their stories and artifacts to create a comprehensive historical record that reflects the diverse experiences of Greek Americans across generations—from immigrant pioneers to second and third-generation professionals in fields ranging from arts and academia to business and entertainment. HAP's mission centers on cultivating understanding of how the Greek American presence has shaped and been shaped by American society, while simultaneously serving as a cultural hub where symposia, events, and exhibitions bring people together. By documenting individual immigrant experiences and preserving historical memory, HAP strengthens community identity and enables meaningful cross-cultural dialogue. The organization's collaborative approach with institutions like Queens College and support from foundations demonstrates its commitment to ensuring that Greek American voices and contributions remain visible, valued, and accessible for current and future generations.
