Plaza de Nuestra Comunidad emerged from a powerful vision of unity and collaboration in Eugene, Oregon. In 2021, three established organizations—Centro Latino Americano, Downtown Languages, and Huerto de la Familia—joined forces to create something transformative: a nonprofit dedicated to building an equitable and thriving intercultural community. What distinguishes Plaza is not just what they do, but who they are and how they do it.
The organization's mission centers on creating a safe, welcoming space where Latinx and immigrant community members experience leadership development, educational opportunities, wellness support, and authentic human connection. Operating across Eugene and Springfield with community gardens and school partnerships throughout Lane County, Plaza is both for and from the community it serves. The staff, board, and leadership team bring lived experience and cultural understanding that shapes every interaction and program.
Plaza's work spans mental health support for families and caregivers, business development for Latinx entrepreneurs, youth literacy programs, and community gardens that nourish both bodies and relationships. Each program reflects a commitment to healing, learning, and thriving—values that guide Plaza's presence in schools, gardens, and offices throughout the region. By bringing together the strengths of three organizations with a long history of collaboration, Plaza de Nuestra Comunidad in Eugene, OR has created a unified hub where families find not just services, but genuine belonging and community support rooted in cultural respect and shared values.
