Queen's Bench, the Multnomah County Chapter of Oregon Women Lawyers (OWLS), is an independent non-profit organization whose mission is to promote the professional advancement of women and underrepresented populations, camaraderie, and good fellowship in the legal profession and the community.
Queen's Bench was founded in 1948 by approximately 25 women lawyers who wrote a constitution, collected dues, and met monthly. Since 1972, Queen's Bench has met on the second Tuesday of every month. Although Queen's Bench is now a chapter of OWLS, Queen's Bench predates the formation of OWLS.
Oregon Women Lawyers was incorporated in 1989 as a 501(c)(6) non-profit professional association. Interest in forming a statewide women’s bar organization grew out of meetings of the Multnomah Bar Association’s Committee on the Status of Women in 1987-88.
Our mission is to transform the legal profession by pursuing equitable access to the legal system and equity for women and communities who are systemically oppressed.
The Oregon Chapter is affiliated with the National AAWCC, a council of AACC, dedicated to equality, equity, and excellence for women. Oregon AAWCC is an organization developed by Oregon women in community colleges for anyone who supports the mission of Oregon AAWCC, to inspire, champion, and celebrate the talents within each of us. AAWCC encourages professional development for women in community colleges, supports women in leadership roles, develops communication among women in community colleges, promotes and offers local and state workshops, disseminates information on courses, programs and services for professional women.

We connect you to grassroots initiatives for women’s empowerment you can trust. We invest in women who are invested in their communities.
WE want a world where women have equal opportunities to succeed
Our work is to combat global gender inequality by creating a network of international grassroots organizations working for women’s rights in their communities.
We vet our partner organizations and then support them in tangible ways. Through relationships with the people who understand the nuanced process of women’s empowerment in their specific communities, we help them achieve a greater impact.
WE are an active force in balancing global gender inequality
We build relationships with grassroots organizations through volunteer projects related to women’s education and empowerment. These projects connect our partners to resources that will enable them to have a greater impact.
WE strengthen grassroots initiatives that empower women
Those who are closest to the solutions are also often furthest from resources they need to accomplish their goals, which is why we partner with organizations who are embedded in their communities. We know the best method of sustainable development is through consulting the experts.
WE support women so communities flourish
Women comprise over half of the global population. When women are undereducated or marginalized, the economic potential of a society stagnates. When women are empowered with education and employment, society as a whole benefits.
