Founded by visionary African American men committed to creating systemic change in Greenville, South Carolina, 100 Black Men Upstate SC, Inc. emerged from a powerful recognition that communities thrive when successful men invest their talents and resources in youth development. Born approximately 18 years ago, this local chapter represents part of a national movement that began in New York in 1963, when concerned African American leaders recognized the need for organized community improvement. The organization's mission centers on inspiring high aspirations among youth and optimizing their futures while strengthening the African American communities they serve. What distinguishes 100 Black Men Upstate SC is their holistic approach rooted in deep community values: respect for family, spirituality, justice, and integrity. Rather than operating in isolation, they function as advocates and leaders who mobilize their diverse professional expertise—from business to industry to various walks of life—to address real community needs. The organization believes that healthy choices and self-sufficiency create lasting change, positioning youth and adults alike as essential contributors to Upstate South Carolina's economic and social progress. By fostering mentorship relationships, providing educational support, and creating spaces for meaningful connection, 100 Black Men Upstate SC builds bridges between accomplished professionals and young people seeking guidance. This chapter exemplifies how collective action, grounded in shared values and community commitment, transforms individual lives and strengthens entire neighborhoods in Greenville and the surrounding region.
