This lively outdoor celebration in collaboration with Univision includes live mariachi music, local bands, and folkloric dance performances. It is a family-friendly alcohol-free event with free children’s art activities, games, and a vendor market.Univision, our local Spanish-language news station, will be providing bilingual hosts for the event. They bring high-energy excitement to our announcements in Spanish and English. The Mexican Consulate Humberto Hernández Haddad will give the “Grito de Independencia” or call to independence. Viva Mexico is an Austin tradition that pays tribute to both Mexico’s Independence Day and to the diverse cultural traditions of Austin’s Mexican, Mexican-American, Latino, Chicano, and Tejano community.
