For over 118 years, YWCA Utah has been the oldest and largest women's movement organization serving the Salt Lake City area, grounded in a mission to eliminate racism and empower women while promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. The organization's work is built on core values including non-violence, emotional intelligence, democracy, social responsibility, and equity—principles that guide every program and interaction within the YWCA Utah community. What sets YWCA Utah apart is its holistic approach to supporting women and marginalized communities, recognizing that better lives for all women lead to stronger families, communities, and societies. The organization serves not only as a crisis intervention provider but as a beacon of hope and transformation, with survivors rebuilding their lives through safe housing, supportive services, and community connection. YWCA Utah's programs have evolved significantly since 1906, expanding from educational and employment classes to include crisis shelter, transitional housing, early education, youth resource centers, and community dialogue initiatives addressing race relations. The organization believes deeply in survivor-driven, anti-oppressive practices and creates affirming environments that welcome everyone regardless of age, race, ethnicity, religion, nationality, background, or circumstance. Operating six physical buildings across the Salt Lake City region, YWCA Utah provides sanctuary, safety, and opportunity to women, children, and families in crisis. The organization's commitment extends beyond individual service delivery to systemic advocacy, working to make meaningful changes that improve the lives of all marginalized people. YWCA Utah stands as a testament to the power of collective action and the belief that a more just society is possible.
