AFWA was formed in 1938 to increase the opportunities for women in all fields of accounting and finance. The first chapter was chartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. AFWA members work at all levels of the accounting and financial services professions—from individual practitioners to entry- and top-level positions in industry and government, and from juniors to partners in major accounting firms. Members include partners in national, regional, and local CPA firms; financial officers; controllers; academicians; financial analysts and data processing consultants; students and recent college graduates; and women returning to the work force.
The Richmond Chapter was formed in 1949, with 11 charter members. Today the Richmond Chapter continues to be a strong chapter that brings together women across the accounting and finance fields. Members in our chapter learn from one another, network with one another, and give back to the community as a group.

Founded in 1972 by a small group of dedicated professionals, MRWBA is the premier organization for women attorneys in the Richmond area. With a mission of supporting and enhancing the professional development of women in the legal profession through education and networking opportunities, programs occur monthly September through May at Willow Oaks Country Club and at other times during the year with member socials, CLE opportunities and mentorship events, including an annual visit to the United States Supreme Court.

The International Foundation for Women’s Empowerment (IFWE) is a non-profit, non-partisan organization established in March 2019 in Virginia, USA. It is a subsidiary of the American Foundation for Educational Excellence (AFEE), and it is affiliated to the International Society for Educational Excellence (ISEE) and to the Center for Excellence in Languages: Teaching, Editing, Translating, Interpreting. Our main objective is to empower women and help them thrive both on the personal and professional levels, regardless of nationality, religion and political affiliation. We aim to operate worldwide through an International Leadership Committee, in collaboration with UN agencies, local senior officials, and different local and international NGOs.
Shameka graduated from law school, passed the bar (on the first time!), and has been practicing for the last 15 years, but that is not what is most important about her. She has compassion and empathy for her clients because she knows how they feel. She will be there for each client in their time of need.

“People’s emotions run rampant during criminal and family law cases, and sometimes, they cannot see the forest for the trees,” Shameka said. “I want to be their guide through one of the most difficult times in their lives.”
Dr. Rostami is a graduate of the Howard University School of Medicine in Washington, DC, where she was chief resident of ophthalmology. She completed her training for ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of Maryland. Dr. Rostami holds board certifications with the American Board of Ophthalmology (FAAO) and serves on the Board of Trustees with the American Board of Facial Cosmetic Surgery (ABFCS) & American Board of Cosmetic Surgery (ABCS).
Dr. Rostami is the former Section Chief of Ophthalmology at Reston Hospital Center, Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at George Washington University, Adjunct Associate Clinical Professor at the State University of New York, State College of Optometry, and Assistant Professor at Howard University Hospital-Ophthalmology. She has received numerous awards over the years, including Dean’s Honor Roll, Beta Kappa Chi Honor Society, Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society, Dr. Charles I. West Award, Trustee Scholarship, Member of AOA Medical Honor Society Gamma Chapter, and peer-voted Northern Virginia Top Doc. She is very involved in Northern Virginia and Washington, DC, area communities and charities, with memberships to medical societies, chambers of commerce, and women in medicine. In addition, Dr. Rostami performs clinical research for leading technology companies in cosmetics and presents her work around the world.
Having performed thousands of cosmetic and medically necessary eyelid surgeries, Dr. Rostami is known as the surgical eye expert in the Northern Virginia and Washington, DC, metropolitan areas. She is honored that other physicians trust her with their own eye surgeries and with those of their patients. While Dr. Rostami is accomplished in lower facelifts, brow and forehead lifts, mid-face and suborbicular oculi fat (SOOF) lifts, eyelid surgeries remain a special interest. She loves performing upper and lower blepharoplasties and ptosis correction to resolve peripheral vision issues and rejuvenate the area for a refreshed and rested appearance. She is also skilled in correcting eyelid anomalies and repairing orbital bone fractures and tissue damage from trauma.
Dr. Rostami also sees patients at her own practice, Rostami Ophthalmic Plastic Consultants.
