As the year ends, come discuss generosity with us!
This is a hybrid event. The Zoom link for this session will be provided the day of the event.
Scriptural Reasoning (SR) is a practice where Christians, Jews, and Muslims study each other’s sacred texts. SR participants meet once a month to read short passages from their respective scriptures on a certain topic. Facilitated by a study leader, each session is an opportunity to listen and share various perspectives. SR sessions help participants reflect on a curious list of topics within the Abrahamic tradition. The result is often a deeper understanding of others and one’s own scriptures, as well as the development of strong bonds across faith communities.
Our study leader for this session will be Imam Zubair Yousif.
Imam Zubair Yousif is the national Muslim faith-specific religious expert for the Federal Bureau of Prisons and the Chaplaincy Services Coordinator for the Mid-Atlantic region. As part of the agency's Chaplaincy Services Branch Central Office team in Washington, DC, Imam Yousif ensures religious accommodations, pastoral care, and faith-based reentry guidance across faith lines to 121 federal prisons nationwide. Besides his caring for inmates and staff of all faiths, Imam Yousif offers professional faith specific Islamic training and guidance including recruiting, hiring, and mentoring to the agency's Muslim Chaplains, contractors, and volunteers. Additionally, his Islamic scholarly and practical approach for guiding incarcerated populations has advanced the agency's commitment to foster healthy and balanced religiosity across faith lines. He is currently pursuing a doctoral program in Muslim leadership from Chicago Theological Seminary/Bayan Graduate School. Imam Yousif enjoys spending time with friends and family, traveling, watching soccer, and lives in Virginia with his wife and two daughters.
