Rooted in a legacy of civic engagement and cultural pride, the Washington Metropolitan Area Division of Polish American Congress has served the Arlington, VA region and beyond since its founding in 1974. Born from the vision of dedicated American-born and immigrant Polish-Americans who sought to amplify the voice of Polish heritage communities in the nation's capital, this organization embodies decades of commitment to preserving Polish-American identity and advocating for Poland's interests. The division operates as a vital component of the broader Polish American Congress, a national organization established in 1944 when Polish-American leaders gathered to ensure Poland's restoration to independence following World War II. Today, the Arlington-based division continues that mission by creating spaces where Polish-Americans can connect, celebrate their heritage, and engage in meaningful civic participation. With membership spanning fraternal organizations, veterans groups, religious institutions, cultural societies, and business leaders, the Washington Metropolitan Area Division reflects the diversity and vitality of the Polish-American community. The organization's territory encompasses the District of Columbia, Virginia, and neighboring Maryland communities, positioning it as a significant cultural and political voice in the region. Through annual dinners, commemorative events, educational programs, and advocacy efforts, the division honors Polish heritage while fostering intergenerational connections and strengthening the bonds between Polish-Americans and their ancestral homeland. The Washington Metropolitan Area Division represents a living testament to the enduring values of community, cultural preservation, and democratic participation.
