Based in Norfolk, VA, Blacks In Technology is a non-profit foundation dedicated to addressing systemic underrepresentation of Black workers in the technology industry. For over a decade, the organization has worked to "stomp the divide" between Black tech workers and the broader tech community by fundamentally influencing change in an industry that has historically lacked parity. The foundation recognizes that Black professionals often find themselves as the only Black person in their team or organization, a challenge that extends from startup founders seeking venture capital to core IT workers pursuing pay equity. Blacks In Technology Virginia's approach centers on leveling the playing field through four key pillars: training, education, networking, and mentorship. The organization operates with a commitment to trust and transparency, with leadership comprised of directors who bring lifelong careers in technology and education. Members gain access to career support, professional networking events, technical resources, and mentorship opportunities supported by a global community of allies, partners, and sponsors. The foundation's impact extends across all technology disciplines and welcomes members at every career stage, from educators shaping the next generation of tech talent to transitional professionals entering the industry. By fostering a supportive ecosystem rooted in community values, Blacks In Technology Virginia empowers Black technologists to achieve excellence and drive innovation across the technology sector.
