Founded in November 1992 by visionary physicians in the Puget Sound region, Filipino American Physicians of Washington (FAPWA) has evolved into a cornerstone organization serving the Auburn, WA community and beyond. The organization emerged from the groundwork laid by Dr. Manuel Roco and Dr. Joseph Sueno, who carried forward the legacy of earlier collaborative efforts to create a unified voice for Filipino-American doctors throughout Washington State. FAPWA's mission centers on enriching the lives of colleagues while connecting individual endeavors for the collective good, representing Filipino-American physicians as essential participants in providing comprehensive care to Washington's diverse populations. Over more than two decades, FAPWA has established itself through meaningful community engagement and international service. The organization's signature "Adopt a Community" program has become a model for other U.S.-based medical groups, demonstrating sustained commitment to serving vulnerable populations both domestically and internationally, including work with indigenous communities in the Philippines. FAPWA values extend beyond professional excellence to encompass social responsibility, community connection, and mentorship. The organization actively seeks collaboration with like-minded institutions to expand its impact locally and globally. By fostering camaraderie, upholding professional integrity, and maintaining strong community ties, FAPWA empowers Filipino-American physicians to serve as agents of positive change within their respective areas of influence across Washington State.

What is a sillbord or Sillunch?
A sillbord (literally “herring table” in Swedish) is a traditional Swedish buffet-style spread centered around pickled herring, usually accompanied by classic sides like:
Boiled potatoes
Sour cream and chives
Crispbread (knäckebröd)
Cheese
Hard-boiled eggs
Various sauces and garnishes
Sometimes cold cuts or smoked fish
It's a staple of Swedish celebrations, especially during holidays like Midsummer, Christmas (Julbord), and Easter, but can also be enjoyed at special lunches like Sillunch.
Think of it as a smaller, more focused cousin of the full smörgåsbord, with herring taking center stage.
