Pradnya Desh, our founder and CEO, is an attorney and former US diplomat. She represented the United States at the WTO and the UN Committee on Trade and Development in Geneva, Switzerland. Then she led an award-winning law firm in Seattle/Bellevue. It was there that she observed that the legal process is broken—expensive, complex, and slow—negatively impacting companies and most importantly, the people in them. She set out to make the process better, and Advocat was born.
Her goal is not to replace attorneys with AI, but to create a world in which AI to handles the rote, repetitive, time-consuming parts of law, while attorneys handle advice, decision-making, strategy, and relationships. She wants to replace the pain of legal processes with joy and connectedness.
For over thirty years, Indian American Community Services (IACS)—formerly known as India Association of Western Washington (IAWW)—has been a cornerstone of support for the Indian American community in the Pacific Northwest. Serving the Bellevue, WA area and beyond, IACS operates as a secular, volunteer-driven organization deeply rooted in its commitment to connecting people, building relationships, and fostering a sense of belonging within the community.
IACS's mission centers on empowering the Asian-Indian community by addressing the often difficult and complex circumstances that affect daily life. The organization takes particular pride in supporting the most at-risk members of the community, recognizing that immigrant and refugee families face unique challenges navigating systems and resources in the United States. Through its work, IACS helps community members manage logistics and details while building meaningful connections in a safe, welcoming environment where everyone feels they truly belong.
What distinguishes IACS is its deep respect for cultural heritage combined with a forward-thinking approach to community needs. As the longest-serving Indian association in the Pacific Northwest, the organization takes pride in sharing and passing down South Asian cultural customs, values, and traditions to younger generations while embracing diversity and encouraging cross-cultural understanding. IACS achieves its goals through constant fostering of inclusion, sharing of knowledge and resources, and active civic engagement. The organization's leadership, including Executive Director Lalita Uppala and dedicated staff members with decades of community service experience, brings passion and expertise to creating lasting impact for immigrant and refugee families throughout the region.
