Fair Wisconsin envisions a fair, safe, and inclusive society in which lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) people are treated with dignity and respect.
Fair Wisconsin Inc. works to build a fair, safe, and inclusive Wisconsin for all lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) people by advancing, achieving, and protecting LGBTQ civil rights through lobbying, legislative advocacy, grassroots organizing, coalition building and electoral involvement.
These efforts are designed to educate the general voting public, sensitize the media, promote a politically active and effective organizational membership, and better inform policy makers on issues of concern to the organization’s members.
Fair Wisconsin is one of the state’s most respected advocacy groups and has a proud history in political action, education, grassroots organizing, and outreach in the cause of LGBTQ equality.
Founded in 1994, Fair Wisconsin, Inc. is a 501(c)(4) organization with a mission to protect and advance the civil rights of LGBTQ people through electoral involvement and direct legislative advocacy.
Our mission is a commitment to equity and quality of life for all LGBTQ+ people through community building, health and human services, and economic, social, and racial justice advocacy.
Our vision is to create a community where the presence and contributions of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender people are welcomed and celebrated; where intolerance is challenged and defeated; where justice prevails; and where civil rights of all people are valued and respected.
GSAFE has roots going back to 1991 when we were two all-volunteer grassroots organizations functioning out of members’ homes, Gays and Lesbians Against Discrimination in Education (GLADE) and Gay and Lesbian Educational Employees (GLEE). In 1996 we became a local chapter of the Gay Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN). After becoming a highly independent organization, we amicably left GLSEN and became a self-governing 501(c)3 organization in 2006 – when we became known as Gay Straight Alliance for Safe Schools. For many years GSAFE focused our programs in South Central Wisconsin but incrementally broadened our geographic scope and now serve the entire state.
In 2014 we announced that we were officially changing our name to “GSAFE’, a long-time organizational nickname, recognizing that the phrase “Gay-Straight Alliance” is not representative of the many identities that make up our community.
GSAFE increases the capacity of LGBTQ+ students, educators, and families to create schools in Wisconsin where all youth thrive. We do this by:
Developing the leadership of LGBTQ+ students,
Supporting Gay-Straight Alliances,
Training educational staff,
Advancing educational justice,
Advocating for public policy, and
Deepening racial, gender, trans, and social justice.
GSAFE values integrity, honesty, openness, and authenticity. We are committed to LGBTQ+ youth leadership, racial, gender, trans, and social justice, and recognize we are all life-long learners and teachers. We hold ourselves accountable to the youth we serve as well as each other, our board, funders, partner organizations, and the broader community by honoring our commitments and continuously reflecting on and improving our work. We dig deep, think creatively, take on big challenges, and pride ourselves on seeing our vision become a reality. We are driven by a vision of a world free of oppression based on gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, race, and other identities and strive to model the world we want to exist through our everyday actions.
PFLAG promotes the health and well being of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning persons, their families and friends through:
- Support, to cope with an adverse society
- Education, to enlighten an ill-informed public
- Advocacy, to end discrimination and to secure equal civil rights
PFLAG provides opportunity for dialogue about sexual orientation, and acts to create a society that is healthy and respectful of human diversity.
We are a group with a three part mission. First and foremost, we exist to support parents and families of lesbians, gays, transgender, and bisexuals who are having problems accepting their relative’s sexual orientation. We also support the spouses of newly out LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning) people. Second, we strive to educate ourselves and others about LGBTQ issues. Third, we are visible advocates for issues affecting the LGBTQ family, such as discrimination in the workplace and housing. With our LGBTQ family and friends, we work for equality of all their civil rights.
