In the Black and Brown community, we were taught to be doers and fixers of everyone else’s problems—often excluding ourselves from proper nourishment, rest, and mental clarity. We found ourselves caring for the nation, yet the nation didn’t care for us in return—until we’re lying in a hospital bed or discombobulated by the pressures of life that could have been prevented.
Welcome to Culture Care Kaffeeklatsch Series! We are taking off our white coats to get real with Black women about their health and their babies! Jack and Jill of America, Inc. is a membership organization of mothers with children ages 2-19, dedicated to nurturing future African-American leaders by strengthening children through leadership development, volunteer service, philanthropic giving and civic duty.
On November 6, 1970, twenty women sharing this same objective chartered the Inglewood Chapter, which has willingly been of service to the Inglewood community for 50 years. Our chapter of 41 mothers is armed with the power to make a difference, and the drive to do it with Five Star Excellence! Amid this remarkable and revolutionary time, our mothers have continued to do an excellent job of pushing the envelope and thinking outside the box to execute creative and innovative programming that highlights our theme To Be Young Gifted and Black. Inglewood mothers works diligently to accomplish our national mission through diverse programs focused on leadership development, cultural exposure, community service, legislative advocacy, and philanthropic giving. Through these programmatic thrusts and our service projects, the Inglewood Chapter successfully creates a medium of contact for our children and others to stimulate their growth and development.
Our fierce commitment to continuously strengthen our sisterly bonds with each other, as well as our sister chapters, is essential to helping us stay on mission, on purpose. The work is not easy, but as we come from a long line of courageous, strong, and persevering women, the Inglewood Chapter is grateful to be able to lean on each other to further our beloved organization for the benefit of all children. Long Live Jack and Jill!
