Since its establishment in 1986 by Dorothy Huang, the Organization of Chinese American Women Silicon Valley Chapter has been a cornerstone of community advocacy and support in Saratoga, CA. As part of a larger national movement founded in 1977, OCAW-SVC embodies a deep commitment to advancing the needs and concerns of Chinese and Asian Pacific American women while celebrating their excellence, leadership, and contributions to society. The organization serves Saratoga and surrounding communities by creating spaces where Chinese American women can integrate into mainstream American society while maintaining cultural identity and pride. OCAW-SVC's approach is rooted in seven core goals: fostering mainstream integration, building self-respect and confidence, promoting cultural exchange, addressing contemporary women's issues, supporting immigrant adaptation, and collaborating with like-minded organizations. What distinguishes OCAW-SVC is its holistic focus on personal development and community transformation—working not just for individual members but for the broader Chinese American and Asian Pacific American communities in the Silicon Valley region. The organization recognizes that meaningful change requires both internal strength-building and external advocacy, addressing everything from educational opportunities to political representation.
