The College Gurl Foundation (CGF) Scholarship Luncheon is an annual fundraiser that honors CGF graduates and program achievements. The College Gurl Foundation (CGF) is a non-profit organization committed to increasing enrollment in higher education for minority students from the Washington Metropolitan area by creating a world of opportunity for them to become the next future leaders of tomorrow. This event is our opportunity to fundraise, publicly salute, and celebrate program participants who have worked hard and overcome tremendous odds to not only graduate high school, but gain admission to an accredited four-year institution. Join Dr. Hamilton for an evening filled with entertainment, fellowship, community awards, and inspiration, as she welcomes an exciting line-up of VIP guest speakers and presents the Newsome Awards, led by Dr. Frederick Ware Newsome. The Newsome Awards has been a national platform for years, helping to advance and support both up-and-coming and established artists in the music industry, while also recognizing the achievements of deserving community leaders like Dr. Hamilton. Over the years, it has welcomed celebrity guests such as Dr. Bobby Jones, Paul Beasley, the Gospel Keynotes, and James Hall’s Worship and Praise. Dr. Newsome, a former Advisory Board member for the world-renowned Stellar Awards, has twice served on the Board of Governors for the Grammy Awards. In 2020, he ran in the Democratic primary for Mayor of Baltimore, Maryland.. Frederick Ware Newsome is an American icon who brings great prestige and honor to this “history in the making” event. Joining tonight’s “All-Star” lineup of guest speakers is James “Jimmy” Garvin, an African American Golf Hall of Famer and community leader who has devoted his career to expanding the sport’s reach among minority youth through the Jimmy Garvin Legacy Foundation. Growing up in poverty, Garvin has used golf to teach young people values like integrity and scholarship. Born to migrant farm workers in Florida, he rose above humble beginnings to graduate from Howard University. His inspiring journey has been featured on the Golf Channel’s *Golf in America: The Jimmy Garvin Story*, and he is the author of the autobiography, *Legacy of a Common Man*. The 2026 Rhonda Hamilton 4 DC Mayor Campaign is honored to have Mr. Garvin join the campaign as the Senior Advisor for Youth Affairs. Dr. Hamilton is set to unveil her 2027 Youth Advancement Agenda, which is just one of many highlights of the evening. Dr. Hamilton is a leader of and for the people. Join Young, Gifted & Green to celebrate 10 years in the Movement for a #LeadFreeUSA and Environmental Justice! Young, Gifted & Green (formerly Black Millennials 4 Flint), started as a community outreach project in the wake of the Flint Water Crisis with Thursday Network--Greater Washington Urban League Young Professionals. We were officially founded in Washington, DC on February 10, 2016, and we have been blessed to expand our work nationally. This fundraising event will feature dinner, music by DJ Marvelous & a violin feature by Candice Mott, a silent auction, a cash bar, a photo booth, and a wonderful celebration of Black Excellence. This esteemed event will also honor the lives of Congressmen Donald McEachin & Raul Grijalva with acknowledgement of remarkable EJ leaders upholding their legacy for cleaner and healthier environments with inductees into the Grijalva-McEachin Legacy Circle along with Inaugural Noir et Vert Award Honorees for Lifetime Achievement & Changemaker.
