Decades of economic renovation have transformed Viet Nam into a lively market. The country now boasts diplomatic ties with nearly 180 countries and trade relations with more than 200 economies all over the world. With approximately 90 million hard-working and talented people, rich in natural resources, home to numerous world heritages, and located in the center of a dynamic economic growth region, Viet Nam is an ideal place to visit and do business.
In 1995, Viet Nam established its Embassy in Washington D.C. following the normalization of diplomatic relations with the U.S. As relationship grew, since 2013, the two countries have established the Comprehensive Partnership, outlining wide-ranging areas of cooperation. On these two decades, we recognize the astounding achievements recorded so far in many areas of our cooperation, including in particular economic and trade relations, cooperation in addressing war legacy issues, as well as in science and technology, education, healthcare, environment, climate change, security and defense, and in regional and global issues of mutual concern.
Today, Viet Nam and the US have solid foundations for a strong partnership, as we look toward the future of our relations and build further upon our comprehensive partnership.
The Vietnamese American Bar Association of the Greater Washington, DC Area, Inc. (VABA-DC) exists to promote the professional growth and advancement of Vietnamese American attorneys, encourage and facilitate the entry of Vietnamese American students into the legal profession, and contribute to the public interest by serving as a voice for the local Vietnamese American community and assisting community members with legal concerns. As part of its mission, VABA-DC collaborates with other Asian American groups on issues that affect our members and our community.
Conceived by a small group of Vietnamese American attorneys in Fall 2006, VABA-DC was formally incorporated in Spring 2007. In February 2009, we awarded scholarships to two truly impressive and community-minded law students at our Inaugural Scholarship Dinner, which was attended by approximately 120 attorneys, law students, community leaders and guests. Congressman Anh “Joseph” Cao was the evening’s Keynote Speaker.
VABA-DC is one of four VABAs in the nation, and the only one on the East Coast. At bottom, we are a group of attorneys and law students who recognize the importance of remaining engaged with our communities even as we work to advance in the mainstream. We are a professional association that understands that the strongest professional bonds are those that also contain elements of genuine friendship.
The National Organization for Vietnamese American Leadership of Greater Washington, DC (NOVAL-DC) is a service-based nonprofit organization with a mission to build sustainable leadership in the Vietnamese American community and preserve the Vietnamese cultural heritage. We seek to elevate the Vietnamese American community by developing the next generation of leaders and promoting greater awareness of our community and culture to the American mainstream.
