Modern Persian Miniature Painting with Sarah Barzmehri

Dive into the vibrant world of Persian art with Sarah Barzmehri and learn to create stunning miniatures that tell a story. Sunday, July 26, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Inspired by the rich visual language of traditional Persian miniature painting, this workshop invites participants to explore contemporary approaches to this intricate and poetic art form. Through storytelling, symbolism, pattern, color, and composition, participants will create their own modern interpretations while learning about the history and aesthetics of Persian miniatures. Using acrylic and gold leaf we will experiment with detailed imagery, decorative elements, layered spaces, and narrative scenes. The workshop encourages both technical exploration and personal expression, blending tradition with contemporary themes and individual imagination. Level: Adults beginners Participants: 6 Cost: $100 Supplies : $30 material fee payable to the instructor Materials Provided: Watercolor or mixed media paper Fine-tip brushes Acrylic paints Gold leaf Pencils and erasers Colored pencils Gold or metallic paint/pens Collage materials such as patterned paper, magazines, or printed text (optional) Scissors and glue Palette and water container Paper towels or cloth rag Reference images or personal sketches for inspiration About Sarah Sarah Barzmehri studied fine arts at the renowned art school in Paris, France (Ècole Supérieure des Beaux Arts de Paris), and Graphic Design at University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC). She’s an accomplished artist, curator and educator. Through art, she gives form to her innermost feelings and unspoken thoughts. Sarah has been teaching adults and children for more than a decade, encouraging a free-spirited approach to creating from the unconscious.

Rabbi Dr. Caryn Aviv, author of Unlearning Jewish Anxiety: How to Live with More Joy and Suffer Less, will lead this course with Rabbi Jenna using neuroscience and Jewish wisdom to offer practical tools for how to spot when we’re in a Jewish anxiety loop and how to respond with better habits. Hebrew Literacy

This class meets Thursdays, January 8 – March 26 from 7:00 – 9:00 pm. Each session is 2 hours long. Class will meet in-person on January 8 and March 26, and the rest of the class will be virtual. Demystify the Hebrew alphabet as you learn the letters and vowels and how to combine them to “crack the code.” This course introduces reading Hebrew in an enjoyable yet focused atmosphere. Emphasis is placed on reading from the prayer book and words from Jewish cultural life. This course, taught by certified language instructor Keren Yairi, is for those with little to no prior Hebrew reading ability. Due to the cumulative nature of literacy learning, students should plan to attend class regularly and spend 20 minutes daily on home practice. The required textbook is “Aleph Isn’t Tough” by Linda Motzkin. Sixth & I has a very limited number of books available to be purchased during registration. Other participants are responsible for purchasing the textbook. Registration for this series closes on January 5 at 5:00 pm.
