Jacksonville Area Sexual Minority Youth Network
JASMYN's story began in 1992 when Ernie Dy Selorio Jr., a courageous queer Asian youth, posted his phone number at Willow Branch Library in Jacksonville, FL, seeking connection with others like himself. That single act of vulnerability sparked a movement that has grown into a robust nonprofit serving LGBTQIA teens and young adults for over 30 years. What started as a small support group has evolved into a comprehensive organization that empowers sexual minority youth while bringing together community members and resources dedicated to promoting equality and human rights across Northeast Florida. The organization's founders, including early board chair Cindy Watson, envisioned a space where vulnerable youth could find acceptance, support, and opportunity. Today, JASMYN continues that legacy by affirming young people in their identities, building their confidence in their futures, and recognizing them as valued contributors to the Jacksonville community. The organization's commitment extends beyond individual support to systemic change, having successfully advocated for protective policies in local schools and created safe environments for LGBTQ youth to thrive. JASMYN represents the transformative power of one person's brave vision, now touching countless lives and fostering hope, resilience, and community connection throughout greater Jacksonville.
