The PFLAG Council of Northern Illinois represents a coalition of loving families, LGBTQ individuals, and allies united in their commitment to celebrating diversity and fostering respect within the Elmhurst and greater Chicago community. Rooted in a mission to build on the foundation of family love and support, the Council educates and empowers communities to become advocates for LGBTQ people and their rights. Since its formation in the late 1990s, the organization has worked to amplify PFLAG's collective voice across Northern Illinois, transforming individual chapter efforts into a powerful movement for change. The Council envisions a world where all people are celebrated and affirmed for who they are, including their sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. By bringing together multiple chapters in the Elmhurst area and surrounding regions, the Council creates a supportive network where families find understanding, individuals discover community, and allies learn how to advocate effectively. The organization's helpline serves as a welcoming entry point for anyone seeking connection, information, or support, reflecting PFLAG's core belief that no one should face their journey alone. Through education, advocacy, and community partnership, the PFLAG Council of Northern Illinois continues to work toward a future where respect, value, and affirmation define how LGBTQ people are treated in every aspect of society.
