Founded in 2017 by four Boston philanthropists and businesswomen—Kim Boucher, Ami Kuan Danoff, Christina Gordon, and Christina Suh—the Women's Foundation of Massachusetts emerged from a recognition that only 1.3% of local philanthropic dollars support nonprofits dedicated to serving women and girls. This Boston-based organization has grown into a community-powered movement dedicated to transforming the lives of women and girls throughout Massachusetts by unlocking their economic potential. What sets the Foundation apart is its belief that investing in women uplifts families, strengthens communities, and creates ripple effects that last for generations. The organization partners closely with nonprofits serving women and girls, providing substantial multi-year grants that enable partners to maximize long-term impact rather than operating on short funding cycles. Since inception, the Foundation has made a meaningful difference in the lives of more than 23,000 women and girls, awarding over $3 million in grants during its 2025 cycle. The Foundation's work extends across Massachusetts, from Boston to the Berkshires, with particular focus on Gateway Cities and underresourced communities.
