Founded in 1980, the Staten Island Women's Bar Association has established itself as a cornerstone organization for legal professionals in Staten Island, NY, dedicated to improving the status of women attorneys and women in general while advancing justice throughout the community. As one of the first chapters to join the Women's Bar Association of the State of New York, SIWBA has built a legacy of ethical practice, community guardianship, and professional excellence. The organization believes that attorneys serve as guardians of their communities, responsible for maintaining ethical awareness and considering the broader impact of legal decisions on community life. SIWBA brings together lawyers who are committed to ensuring just outcomes that respond to the highest needs of the community, balancing the pursuit of truth with philosophical and ethical considerations. The association's mission extends beyond professional advancement to include meaningful community engagement and social responsibility. Members find value in building and strengthening a community of women who support each other's personal and professional goals while giving back to the larger Staten Island community. This collaborative approach creates a unique environment where legal professionals can develop meaningful relationships, participate in advocacy work, and contribute to policy discussions at both local and statewide levels. By joining the Staten Island Women's Bar Association, members become part of a purposeful community of legal professionals united by shared values of diversity, equality, and justice. The organization continues its nearly five-decade tradition of empowering women in law and positively influencing the legal profession and community in Staten Island, NY.
Founded on September 17, 1958, the Turkish Women's League of America has established itself as a vital community institution serving Staten Island, NY and the surrounding Turkish-American population. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, TWLA is driven by a mission to preserve Turkish language and culture while building meaningful connections between American and Turkish women through friendship and mutual respect. The organization's legacy spans over six decades of dedicated service, making it one of the longest-operating Turkish-American organizations in the United States. At the heart of TWLA's work is the New York TWLA AtatĂĽrk School, founded in 1971, which has become a source of pride for the community by ensuring that Turkish cultural heritage is passed down to new generations. Beyond formal education, TWLA creates opportunities for community members to gather, celebrate, and learn through diverse cultural events including art exhibitions, concerts, theater performances, and scholarly discussions. The organization is deeply rooted in the principle that Turkish women deserve recognition and respect in society, drawing inspiration from historical figures who contributed to Turkish independence and progress. Governed by a committed board of directors with professional expertise and personal investment in the community, TWLA continues to work collaboratively with other organizations to support the Turkish-American community in Staten Island while advancing broader goals of cultural preservation, women's empowerment, and intercultural understanding.
